This page is a snapshot of university rankings, both nationally and internationally, published in the last three years. It includes ratings from graduate or student surveys and other international quality measures.

Results Published in 2023

Australian university graduates are surveyed annually about the quality of their university experience and subsequent employment outcomes. The resulting scores are translated into star ratings and are published in the Good Universities Guide.

In the 2024 guide, ECU has maintained its long-standing 5-star rating for undergraduate teaching quality. It’s now 17 straight years!

ECU was also rated 5 stars for undergraduate:

  • overall experience
  • skills development
  • student support
  • learning resources

Notably, ECU is rated #1 in Western Australia across all six survey categories for undergraduates.

For postgraduate study, ECU is again rated five stars for five of the six survey categories: overall experience, teaching quality, student support, skills development, and learning resources.

ECU is also #1 in Western Australia on these categories.

The university is #1 in Australia for postgraduate learning resources.

At the discipline level (subject areas defined by the Good Universities Guide) for undergraduate study, ECU is:

  • #1 in Australia for overall experience in Computing and Information Systems
  • #1 in Australia for learning resources and skills development in Education and Training
  • #1 in Western Australia on all categories for Business and Management and Science and Mathematics

Times Higher Education Young Universities

THE Young University Rankings lists the world’s best universities aged 50 years old or younger.

ECU is 32 years old in 2023 and is again ranked in the top 100 with an improved position on 2022.

Young universities are judged across their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.

QILT Student Experience Survey

For the third year in a row, ECU students have rated us the top public university in Australia for their overall experience as an undergraduate.

We’ve also been rated Australia’s top public university for skills development and for student support.

And we’re rated in the top 2 Australian public universities for teaching quality and learning resources.

Among Western Australian universities, ECU is rated top in 5 of the 6 categories measured in the survey.

The Student Experience Survey National report is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia. It’s based on hundreds of thousands of surveys completed in 2022 by students from all universities across Australia, both public and private.

Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching, or QILT, is an independent federal government survey that’s been administered annually since 2012.

QS World University Rankings by Subject

ECU is again highly regarded internationally for Sports related subjects, ranking 33rd in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 and 6th among Australian universities.

In Performing Arts, ECU again ranked in the top 100 globally. This places ECU equal first in Australia in this category, a significant achievement for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Other significant rankings included:

  • Petroleum Engineering – global rank top 160 and 6th nationally
  • Nursing – global rank top 150
  • Education – global ranking top 300
  • Business & Management – global ranking top 550

  • for teaching quality in the undergraduate Computing and Information Systems and Education and Training disciplines
  • for overall educational experience in the undergraduate Computing and Information Systems discipline
  • for teaching quality and student support in the postgraduate Psychology discipline
  • for student support in Business and Management discipline

Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings lists the top universities in the world based on their performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The latest rankings for 2023 have seen ECU ranked in the top 400 universities in the world for the first time, marking a jump of two category levels from featuring in the top 600 in 2019.

QILT Student Experience Survey

Our students have rated ECU Australia’s top public university for undergraduate teaching quality for the 7th year in a row in the latest QILT rankings (2021 Student Experience Survey).

In fact, ECU topped the rankings for public universities in Australia for undergraduate overall experience, teaching quality, skills development and learning resources.

ECU is also the top ranked university (public or private) in Western Australia for undergraduate overall experience, student support and learning resources.

Additionally, our international undergraduate students have rated ECU the top public university in Australia for overall experience.

The Student Experience Survey National report is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia. It is based on hundreds of thousands of surveys completed in 2021 by students from all universities across Australia, both public and private.

QS World University Rankings by Subject

ECU continues to be highly regarded internationally for Sports related subjects, again being ranked 30th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

Among Australian universities, we’re ranked sixth for Sports related subjects.

For Nursing studies, ECU is again ranked in the global top 100.

Our Performing Arts program also ranks in the top 100 worldwide, equating to second among Australian universities.

Petroleum Engineering has again ranked in the top 150 world-wide.

ECU’s Education subjects are ranked in the 251-300 band globally.

Business and Management studies have been ranked for the first time, appearing in the world-wide 501-550 band.

For the first time, ECU has been rated 5 stars for postgraduate overall experience and the top WA university.

Other postgraduate 5-star ratings included skills development, learning resources, student support and teaching quality.

ECU has achieved 5 stars and the highest ranking in Australia across these categories and disciplines:

  • for teaching quality in the undergraduate Rehabilitation, and Education and Training disciplines
  • for overall educational experience in the undergraduate Computing and Information Systems, and Education and Training disciplines
  • for overall educational experience and student support in the postgraduate Psychology discipline

Times Higher Education World University Rankings

ECU has maintained its position in the top 500 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2022.

The World University Rankings is an annual list of more than 1000 of the top universities, ranked for their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

This ranking places ECU in the top 2.5% of universities in the world.

Times Higher Education Impact Rankings

ECU’s reputation as a top university has shone through in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings for 2021.

The University was ranked in the top 50 for Gender Equality (24th), Good Health and Wellbeing (24th) and Quality Education (41st).

This is the third year of the THE Impact Rankings, which examine the contributions of universities towards the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are a call-to-action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.

QS World University Rankings Top 150 under 50

ECU has been listed in the QS Top 150 under 50 rankings for 2020.  The rankings cover the world’s 150 leading institutions founded after 1967.

ECU was established in 1991 and appears in the 101-150 category.
